Description:

Opportunity Overview
AIChE is looking for volunteers to help support the 2019 AIChE Annual Student Conference Chem-E-Car Competition, which is taking place Saturday Nov 9– Sunday Nov 10 at the Hyatt Regency Orlando.  AIChE will be hosting over 40 Chem-E-Car teams from Universities all around the world to participate in this event.  This is a great opportunity to view some creative car designs and network with other Chemical Engineers.

What is the AIChE Chem-E-Car Competition?

AIChE's Chem-E-Car Competition® engages college students in designing and constructing a car powered by a chemical energy source, that will safely carry a specified load over a given distance and stop.  The competition increases awareness of the chemical engineering discipline among the public, industry leaders, educators, and other students.   Check out a video of a past Competition here.

Competition Schedule & Volunteer Descriptions

Chem-E-Car Safety Inspection & Poster Competition
Saturday November 9 | 3:30PM - 6:30PM

  • Safety Reviewers will divide into teams and will receive a Safety Review Form, which will prompt questions to ask each Chem-E-Car Team about the potential safety hazards of their design.  Safety Inspectors are asked to provide comments and look for any potential safety rule violations.  If the volunteers notice a potential hazard, they will notify the lead Safety Coordinator of the competition, who will further investigate.

  •  Poster Competition Judges will divide into teams and will receive a poster competition rubric, which will prompt questions to ask each Chem-E-Car Team about the design.  The Poster Competition is graded upon: (1) overall quality of the poster, (2)creativity and unique design features, (3) safety in the Chem-E-Car design and (4) team's ability to answer questions about the design and demonstrate a widespread knowledge of the reactions and calibration methods.

  • Judges should hold a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or similar discipline.

  • Experience working in Process Safety is useful to participate as an On-Site Safety Inspector, but not required.
