Dr. Joseph J. Cramer is currently Director Emeritus, Program Development, for AIChE. He was appointed Director, Technical Programming in 1994 and retired from full time employment in early January of 2012. As Director of Technical Programming he worked with AIChE and its Program Committee (as its Secretary) to develop content for AIChE national and specialty meetings and was responsible strategically for AIChE's technical programming initiatives. Previously, he had more than 20 years experience with Stone and Webster Engineering as an environmental engineer, project manager and program manager. He also worked with Brown and Root and Bechtel as an air quality engineering department head. Dr. Cramer has extensive experience both as an expert witness and in managing others who presented expert testimony. During his many years in industry, Dr. Cramer helped to develop a training program for those whose work assignments were likely to require the preparation and presentation of expert testimony. With an attorney colleague, he used this experience to design a two-day course which was offered as an AIChE short course for nearly ten years. Dr. Cramer received his BS and PhD from the University of Pennsylvania and a Masters in Chemical Engineering Practice from the MIT Practice School. He is a Fellow of AIChE, a licensed P.E. in Texas, and currently serves on the AIChE's Admissions Committee, Membership Committee, Licensing and Professional Development Committee and Fellows Council. He recently served as the Programming Chair for AIChE's Management Division and is now 1st vice chair of the division and will serve as chair in 2019. He is also a member of AIChE's Research and New Technology Committee, and the NCEES Chemical Engineering Examination Committee. Past service to the Institute includes a term on AIChE's BOD (1993-1995), and assignments as meeting program chair for an AIChE national meeting (Summer, 1992) and as chair of AIChE's Environmental Engineering Division (1991) as well as serving an original member of the Chemical Engineering Technology Operation Council from its inception until early 2012. In addition to his current volunteer activities in the chemical engineering profession he consults to AIChE and others. He has been married to his wife, Peggy Jean, since 1968 and has one son, JJ Cramer. His hobbies include tennis, baseball, traveling and he is an avid history buff. He resides in Hendersonville, NC .
