Dilek Alkaya has started her career in academia, with emphasis on Process Modeling/Simulation, Control and Optimization at METU/ODTU. She enhanced her experience by working on industrial projects during her postdoctoral and visiting researcher positions at Carnegie Mellon University in USA and University of Alberta in Canada. 

She joined industry, Air Products and Chemicals as Process Engineer, to focus more on the applied part of her field of expertise. She continued to contribute to Oil & Gas industry as Control Engineer at Tesoro’s Golden Eagle Refinery in Martinez CA where she participated in safe process improvement initiatives, process control implementations, and maintaining, monitoring advanced application, optimization tools.


Beside her  15+ years of diverse technical experience & contributions to  academic & industry; she continuously gives back to community by active participation and leadership roles at Society of Women Engineers  ( as VPMembership 2007-2008, President 2010-2015) of Mount Diablo Section, Toastmaster International (serving as District 57 Area Governor 2012,Conference co-chair 2013, Mentoring Chair 2014 and Division Director 2015, Club Growth Director 2016 & Program Quality Director 2017 roles ) and providing several Youth Leadership programs among SWE and D57 TMs

LOCAL/NATIONAL AICHE INVOLVEMENT:

AICHE NORCAL, Member since 2005. Director at Large: Membership (2006-2008), Vice Chair (2013-2014), Chair (2014-2015), Past Chair, Nomination Chair (2015-2016), General Arrangement Chair (GAC) of AICHE NORCAL for 2016 AICHE Annual Conference in San Francisco, 2018 Professional Progress Award Recipient, Professional Progress Award Chair 2019

Member of AICHE since 1998,  Life Time Member .... Participated in national meetings by giving technical presentations and organizing AICHE National meetings such as:

• Chair: Integration of Design and Control (2002)
• Co-Chair: Control of Distributions and Profiles; Advances in Optimization 2002, Challenges for Design in Practice 2001; Poster Session on Topics in Systems and Process Control 2001; Topical Conference on Reviews and Tutorials in Process Design 2000.
