Last year New Mexico State University Student Chapter toured the Golden, Colorado, MIllerCoors Plant.

Tell us about your AIChE Student Chapter Industry tour. Where did your chapter go? What did you see? Did the tour inspire  you to change your minor?

Hello Maria!! How are you? I hope you're doing great.

In the months of december last year and march this year AIChE UFRJ visited CENPES, which is the Petrobras unit responsible for research and development activities of the company and Ambev, a brazilian company dedicated to the production of beverages, including beers, soft drinks, energy drinks, juices, teas and water.

The first one was really cool because we were able to learn how oil is formed and the steps necessary to study the feasibility of a drilling well. In the second one, we did an awesome tour where we went through every step of the production of beer, from the field to the glass (as Ambev says), and in the end we even had the opportunity to try beer directly from production.

Definetely both of them showed me how beautiful the chemical engineering is, and how a chemical engineer can work on multiple fields, since we are a multidisciplinary worker. It only reassured me that I'm exactly where I want to be.

I love your post suggestion and thanks for asking! I wish you the best.

    Best regards,

Hi Bruno. I hope you are well.

I am glad that the tours were life-affirming for you. In my case, a tour caused me to pivot my entire life. After I graduated from Cal I worked in Silicon Valley. I volunteered with the Society of Women Engineers of Santa Clara Valley on the https://www.getset.org program.

My job was to take all of the girls who were entering the 12th grade on a tour of five to six of the most advance engineering research labs at Cal (University of California at Berkeley), my alma mater.  I was so inspired by the tours that I decided to go back to school and pursue a third degree and eventually work in the chemical engineering field.

Yay for being able to pivot. Thanks for sharing your experience. I wonder where else AIChE student chapter members have gone.

    Best regards,

    Maria
