Soft skills

  • 1.  Soft skills

    Hi everyone,

My name is Linh and I am a senior at the University of Utah. I am wondering what soft skills are needed to have in the interviews or to put in the resume for Chemical Engineering jobs?

And I am not sure if we need to have any extra languages (including programming). If we need to obtain that in the resume, which language should I learn?

    Thank you,
    Linh

Hello Linh, how are you? I hope you and your family are doing well during these tough times we are living in.

In interviews I'd say that the most important thing to have is to be carismatic. To be able to create a friendly relationship during the interview and break the ice, the tension, that floats in the air. This way, you'll be more comfortable with yourself, so will the interviewer, and also it is going to create a better environment and this can create a better image of you.

To put in the resume, I believe the most important skills are being communicative (knowing how to express yourself written and verbally), empathetic, a good listener and yet knowing how to position yourself in the conversations. But you must remember that you shouldn't lie on your resume, so if you don't feel that you're like that, don't say youre, because the interviewer will notice. It will be interesting to say that it's something you recognize you're not really strong, and you're working on it by doing xxxxxxx, though.
