Seeking guidance

Hi, everyone. Myself Md-Faisal, 3rd-year undergraduate student pursuing Chemical Engineering from Jadavpur University.
The purpose of this message is to seek guidance from the community which I just entered (AIChE) about how to start and gain more from this platform.
I am interested in the Oil & Gas, Petrochemical sectors, and also keen towards Simulation software- like Aspen and ChemCAD. I want to see myself in the future as a Process Engg, Reservoir Engg. (Truly speaking, I want to get selected into office work as I am too lazy).

So, treat me as your younger brother and if possible please recommend me where to start, and possibilities and different aspects

    Thank you.

Hello Faisal, how are you? I hope you're doing well and you're safe!

First, I want to congratulate you for joining us, the AIChE Community! I'm sure this is the first step for creating a professional network and start to develop important skills for your career.

As you asked to treat you as the younger brother (that I've never had), I'll be 100% honest with you.

If I were you, I'd rethink the phrase "Truly speaking, I want to get selected into office work as I am too lazy". I say that because sometimes being lazy can be good, as you can find easy ways for hard jobs. There's even a famous quote attributed to Bill Gates:

"I choose a lazy person to do a hard job. Because a lazy person will find an easy way to do it." (source: click here)

I would rethink it because the way it was said leads to the bad meaning of lazy. At least for me. I question myself how a recruiter on a interview would see it. Having this awareness is good so you can take your time with this thought.

Talking about the AIChE Platform, you should definetely take your time to explore the Student Central, learn about the topics that have already been discussed here. You may find a lot of posts that will be interesting to you and somehow help you. Also, the process of navigating through the posts, reading interesting points of view on different topics can be very enriching.

In the first moment, if you're feeling lazy, I'd suggest you reading this post. From there you can explore even more. Also, don't hesitate to message or email me! I'll be more than glad to help.

I wish you all the best and good luck on your journey.

    Best regards,

Thanks, Bruno Neves for your kind words. I will keep that in mind.
In fact, when I was writing the message I thought I wouldn't get a reply, but I was wrong. The phrase of AIChE being the Home of Chemical Engineers is indeed true.
    Thanks once again.
