Probably showing my age, but I relied on spreadsheets for much of what I did.

I found trending control charting key process and quality parameters to be very helpful.

    PRO/II.

I've spent thousands of hours simulating processes using PRO/II.  It's satisfying to see the simulation confirm my mental estimate.  I learn something very valuable when it doesn't.

I am also a big spreadsheet user. It really helps organize my thoughts and I like the integration with PI.

A tool I haven't tried yet but I've heard great things about is tableau, Anyone here used it.

No surprise here… one more prolific Spreadsheet user here. I also utilize the tools that come with PI ProcessBook or Uniformance PHD Trend. A simple XY plot in PI ProcessBook has helped troubleshoot many Ops issues. Simply setup a XY plot and automatically run it through the year, just like watching an animation, very interesting to watch how the relationship changes over time and whoa, the moment that relationship breaks and tells when the issue started… I also use ProcessBook to build a schematic and walk back in time and run minute by minute to troubleshoot, gives a chance to look at the whole process snapshot by snapshot… utilized Matlab a bit, like the 3D scatter plots… I also extensively use the Excel 'data analysis', specifically the correlation and regression options to verify known relationships and build new ones, opening up multivariate analysis right in Excel...

Excels by default required. It’s like a calculator now. But my favourite non-Excel tool would be Aspen Plus or UniSim.

I used two tools.  The first was "factorial regression" which I developed based on a comment in the book Statistics for Experimenters by G.E.P. Box, W.G. Hunter and J.S. Hunter.  It is available in several statistical analysis packages including JMP by SAS, and Statistica by SoftStat.  Even more useful was plotting statistical control charts.  The former was used to correlate anomalies seen in the latter.
