    Hello,

A friend of mine got a bachelors degree in Biochemical Engineering. She worked in industry for several years and then decided to leave the profession to teach in elementary school. She has been teaching for 20 years. However, she is considering getting back into the industry. She recently asked me for advice. While I have my own ideas, I would like to hear from others in industry on what she should consider doing. The more input/advice I can get from the AIChE community for her, the better.

I appreciate your feedback in advance!

    Thanks,

    Please find the following :

    1. Coming back to industry is Good. Please inform her to remain in Industry till retirement or long time. Industry will also look for similar kind of assurance from her.
    2. Refresh the earlier industry experience details in order to gain grip.
    3. While re-entering do not look for highest salary or highest position but look for the best company, even with little compromise on position. If your friend has potential, Industry will recognize subsequently and reaches better position in the reputed company. The process is slow and some times painful, but gives better platform for future.
    4. Take the leverage of subject knowledge and utilize in the industry. Hence choosing of industry related to the subjects what she is teaching will give better results.
    5. Since the fields are different, after joining one should have patience till identity is established with hard work.

Mr. Kumar already said what I was going to say.  To some degree we all are the same when we convince a prospective employer that we are excited about helping to move the enterprise forward.  Maybe it'll be a dream job, but maybe not.  Work experience as an educator could be valuable in some engineering positions.
